The Difference Between Normal and Black Castor Oil

Castor oil is well known locally for its effects as a laxative. Many despise it simply because they were tricked during childhood to ingest it. Apart from its laxative properties, it has lots of benefits for hair and skin but is exceeded by one of the worlds most famous oil, black castor oil.

Most Ask: What is the difference between black castor oil and normal castor oil when both have the exact same ingredient?

There are 4 main important differences between black and regular castor oil.

The Processing:

Black and regular castor oil are both made from the same castor bean but are processed differently.

Regular castor oil is made by pressing fresh castor bean without heat and it is thus “cold-pressed.” Now you know what it means when an oil is cold pressed. Without heat, the oil has a lower chance of degrading but some manufacturers use chemicals in their cold pressing process.

Black castor oil is created by firstly roasting the bean. The ash of the roasted castor beans results in the dark and burnt ashy smell.

The colour, obviously..:

This is the most obvious way to differentiate between the two oils. The regular oil is a yellow colour. The more lighter the regular castor oil is, the more pure it is.

Black castor oil is quite the opposite with a dark color caused by the roasted castor bean ashes.

pH-Level

The ash found in black castor oil results in a higher pH (alkaline) product that is believed to have more clarifying properties. In fact, alkaline pH levels can help open cuticles which is an added plus for the hair and skin!

What you’re after! The Benefits:

Packed with fatty acids, the castor oils have many benefits.

Ricinoleic acid (one of the 18 fatty acids found in castor oil) is known for its anti-inflammatory properties which makes these oils great for skin conditions and hair growth.

Both regular and black castor oil benefit the hair, but due to the roasting of the castor bean, there are some added benefits for using Black Castor Oil.
